Prop 1 proposes a 50% cut in property taxes. But state politicians have no plan to replace $125 million in local lost funding every year.
Rural communities would be hit the hardest. Our small towns and counties are already underfunded. Prop 1’s deep budget cuts would force local communities to consider closing hospitals, leaving roads unplowed, and making 911 response times even longer.
We can help homeowners who are genuinely squeezed without gutting the services they rely on the most. Wyoming already provides targeted property tax exemptions for seniors, veterans, and long-time homeowners. A 50% cut for everyone does little more for them and instead benefits the wealthiest homeowners and takes real money from ambulances, hospitals, firefighters, and sheriffs.
